happen vi. 意为“偶然发生，出现”，泛指一切客观事物或情况的发生，强调动作的偶然性, 属于短暂性动词，不能与表示一段时间的时间状语连用。

1. 某地/某时发生了什么事，常用于“sth. happen 地点/时间”结构。

如：The story happened in 2020.这个故事发生在2020年。

2. 某人出了某事（常指不好的事情），常用于“sth. happen to sb."结构。

如：What happened to you?你出了什么事情？

3. 某人碰巧做某事，常用于“sb. happen to do sth."结构。

如：I happened to buy a sweater for her yesterday.昨天我碰巧给她买了件毛衣。

4.表示碰巧发生某事时，还可用“It happens/ happened that…"结构。

如：It happened that he had to stay at home that moment.碰巧当时他不得不待在家里。

注：that 从句中的主语是人时，此结构可与“sb. happen to do sth."结构互换。
